Cut flower workflow

From field to chilled carton

Nine controlled steps protect opening, colour and vase life from harvest to dispatch.

01

Harvest

Cut in the early morning once the dew has dried, or in the cooler evening, at the tight, well-coloured bud stage. Stems go straight into crates and stay in the field no more than 20 minutes.

02

Pre-cooling

Stems are held at 0.5–3°C and 70–80% relative humidity for at least 4 hours to draw field heat out quickly and steady the flowers before handling.

03

Sorting & trimming

Damaged, diseased and malformed stems are removed; the lower leaves are stripped, leaving 2–3 healthy compound leaves, and stems are graded by length.

04

Bud cleaning

Buds are rinsed with clean water to remove nectar and surface soil before the flowers move to the next stage.

05

Sanitising & preservation

Flower heads are dipped briefly in a low-concentration solution of an approved floral sanitiser and then drained. Skipped entirely when a buyer requests chemical-free flowers.

06

Base cut & hydration

Stems are bunched to a single specification, cut to a clean angle at the base and stood 3–5 cm deep in fresh preservation solution at low temperature for at least 4 hours; the solution is never reused.

07

Inner wrapping

Buds are wrapped in tissue paper with a water-retaining pad at the base, protecting the petals from friction and bruising inside the carton.

08

Packing

Bunches are packed in corrugated or insulated cartons with ice packs kept clear of the flower heads, and cold-chain labels are applied.

09

Storage & dispatch

Finished cartons are held at 0–2°C and shipped within 24 hours where possible; transport also runs at 0–2°C, never alongside ethylene-producing fruit.

One written specification

Bunches are matched for bud size and stem length to a single agreed grade, so every carton presents uniformly.

Cold chain end to end

Flowers are held at 0–2°C from pre-cooling to arrival, and never stowed beside ethylene-producing fruit.

Traceable lots

Every consignment traces back to our own base in Heze and to the harvest window it was cut in.

Export paperwork ready

Invoices, packing lists and coordinated phytosanitary documents travel with each shipment.
